Originally from Portland, Oregon, Dawn-joy grew up in a very musical family and credits much of her musical inspiration to her father’s love and passion for music. “I grew up with my dad playing his originals almost every night as I went to sleep,” she says. Training in voice, both classical and opera, piano, drums and dance for thirteen years landed Dawn-joy many opportunities. During her teen years, Dawn-joy began performing at pageants, fairs, in musicals and plays, operas and Portland Trailblazer games. Though Dawn-joy says, “my biggest honor was having the opportunity to solo perform for President George Bush who was in office at the time and President Reagan.” She expresses that in addition to inspiration from her family, “growing up, my earliest country music influences were Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire and Lorrie Morgan.”
Today, Dawn-joy is at home in Nashville after a 2009 move from Los Angeles. She is vocal coaching other Nashville artists and doing what she loves, singing and writing. She just completed her fourth CD of original music that can be described as a contemporary country blend of heartfelt emotion and full-of-life lyrics and has performed at Nashville venues including The Commodore Lounge, The Rutledge and for The Nashville Scene’s 2009 holiday party. Dawn-joy’s power vocals and uncompromising songwriting will leave you wanting more.
